Fire Risk Assessments

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 which came into force in 2006 make all businesses directly responsible for the safety of users on their premises. The previous fire certificates have been replaced with a fire risk assessment. This needs to be carried out by a responsible person, and should be recorded if you employ five or more people, though all companies should consider this, whatever their size. All staff also require fire awareness training.

These regulations are enforced by the Fire Authority who carry out inspection programmes on premises based on risk. PAVY Ltd can assist with fire risks assessments, fire safety awareness and fire warden training.

Warehouse Safety The Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 require employers to manage the risks that arise in warehouses and put in place appropriate health and safety measures. All mechanical handling equipment, storage facilities and racking must also comply with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER). Lifting equipment (e.g. fork lift trucks) also needs to adhere to the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER).

Warehouse accidents not only have a human cost, but can be expensive in terms of damaged goods and equipment, the use of temporary storage facilities, general disruption, as well as possible legal action. PAVY Ltd offer a range of services to ensure your warehousing conforms to health and safety regulations.

Manual Handling Over a third of all over-three-day injuries reported under RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995) are caused by manual handling. Injuries occur in all work places: on farms and building sites, in factories, offices, warehouses, hospitals, banks, laboratories, and while making deliveries.

The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 require employers to avoid the need for hazardous manual handling, and assess and reduce the risk of injury where this is not practicable.
