Where do I start? There are several stages to implementing ISO14001 – starting with an initial environmental review and ending up with a fully certified EMS.

The goal is for you to get your ISO 14001 certification with the minimum of disruption, and we will guide you through all the stages needed to achieve this. Our work doesn’t stop there though; we can offer you continued support in future years to ensure that you maintain your certification, and have an easy source of advice on such matters as new legislation and internal auditing or training.

Initial Review Before you start, you will need to understand what is required and what commitments your organisation will need to make. A free consultation with PAVY Ltd will give you an overview of the key requirements of ISO 14001 (such as a commitment to continual improvement, internal auditing and annual review). We will also visit your site with you to ensure we understand your business.

Environmental Policy This is a statement of commitments and intentions regarding your organisation’s environmental performance. It describes what you want to achieve, and is available to the public. We will prepare an Environmental Policy that meets all the requirements stated in ISO 14001:2004.

Planning This is the most important stage of the process as everything else will follow on from this. It is at this stage that you ensure you understand all applicable regulatory and other requirements, assess the impacts your operation has on the environment and set objectives and targets to improve performance. We will work with you to understand your business, and prepare the following documents:

Implementation and Operation At this stage you turn your policies and plans into practice through a programme of training, communication and procedures. This is also where systems for document control and emergency preparedness need to be established. We will provide you with:

Checking It is important that your EMS is checked and that corrective and preventive actions are in place to ensure continual improvement. You will need to carry out internal audits to monitor and measure your performance and progress. We will establish an auditing schedule and can train your internal auditors. We can also carry out some internal audits for you if required.

Management Review Senior management hold a meeting, typically once or twice a year, to review how well the EMS is performing. This is where non-conformities, corrective actions and internal audit results are reviewed. The cycle of continual improvement then continues. As part of our ongoing support programme, we can attend these management meetings to ensure that all the requirements of ISO 14001:2004 are met.

Certification Having your system certified by an external UKAS-accredited third party body enables you to demonstrate your environmental performance to interested parties throughout the world. We will liaise with your appointed third party UKAS-accredited certification bodies and be present on site during initial review and final audits from external certification body.

Once you have successfully been awarded your ISO 14001 certificate, we can continue to support you in a number of ways including:
